GETTING STARTED WITH ONLINE LEARNING

To help you get the most out of these online courses here are some tips on how to navigate your way through them.

 

You have three choices for viewing courses on-line

 

1.      Standard Screen View click here to see sample

2.      Player Panel View click here to see sample

3.      Full Screen View click here to see sample

The Headset Icon headphone.PNGindicates that the lesson has audio narration/s and comments. When you see this icon, you will need to use speakers or a headset.

 

You can use the Volume icon volume_blue.JPGvolume_white_down.JPGto increase or decrease the level of volume.


 

STANDARD SCREEN VIEW

 

This view includes a side panel on the left and a player panel at the bottom.

 

The side panel shows an outline of the course topics. To navigate to any page you want to, simply click a topic in the side panel and you will go straight to that page.

 

Or click on the forward or back arrows in the player panel at the bottom to navigate to the next page, or to go back to the previous page.

 

To open file attachments, click the Attachment tab located at the top right of the screen. This Attachment tab only appears in Standard View and Player Panel View.

 

Click the volume icon to adjust (increase or decrease) audio volume in the lesson. Volume can also be adjusted from your computerís volume settings.

 

To change the screen view, click the view icon. It is located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

PLAYER PANEL VIEW

This view includes a player panel at the bottom. The side panel at the left disappears and so the page view is larger.

 

Click on the forward or back arrows in the player panel at the bottom to navigate to the next page, or to go back to the previous page.

To navigate through to the next page use the next icon found in the player bar located at the bottom of the screen.

FULL SCREEN VIEW

This view includes navigational icons at the bottom right corner. The side panel at the left and the player bar at the bottom both disappear so that the page occupies the full screen.

 

Use the forward arrow to navigate to the next page.

 

To navigate back to the previous page, to view attachments or to adjust audio, you need to first click the view icon to set your screen back to either Standard view or Player Panel view.

ATTACHMENT TAB

Click on the Attachment Tab to find the documents and files attached to the lesson. The Attachment tab is located near the top right corner of the screen.

 

Depending on the file format of the attached file, once an attached file is clicked it will either open in a new window /tab or a popup will open to prompt you if you want to open the file or save the file.

 

Click OK or X (below attachment tab) to close the list of file attachments and return to normal view mode.

TYPES OF INTERACTIONS

 

A range of interactions are used in the online courses. Letís introduce you to some of them.

TAB Interaction (shown in full screen view)

 

To navigate between the tabs you can either click the next and previous arrows at the top right or click the tabs on the left. When you do this, the tab is highlighted in a different colour (from blue to red) indicating that is the active tab showing details about that subtopic. See example below.

 

To leave the tab interaction and navigate to the next page or next topic click the Next Page button located at the top right beside the next and previous arrows.

 

Use the volume icon located near the top right of the screen to adjust the volume. To change the screen view, click the view icon.

LABELLED GRAPHIC Interaction (in Player Panel View)

 

To navigate between the labels in the labeled graphic, you can click on the labels or click on the next and previous arrows. When you do this, the labels open to display the information they contain.

 

The introduction is always in a green circular label. Other labels usually contain symbols in a range of different colours. In the example below the labels are green and red with arrows pointing to the feature they explain.

 

To leave the labelled graphic interaction and go to the next page or next topic you can click the Next Page button located at the top right or use the arrows on the player bar.

 

Use the volume icon located near the top right of the screen to adjust the volume. To change the screen view, click the view icon.

FLIPBOOK Interaction (shown in Player Panel view)

 

To move between the pages in the flipbook intercation you can use the next and previous arrows located at the top right, or you can point your mouse at the bottom corner of the page and then click hold and drag/flip mouse to the left.

 

To leave the flipbook interaction and go to the next page or next topic, click the Next Page button located at the top right, or use the arrows on the player bar.

 

Use the volume icon located near the top right of the screen to adjust the volume. To change the screen view, click the view icon.

CIRCLE Interaction (shown in panel player view)

 

The circle interaction always opens showing the introduction. To see further information you can click a sector in the circle diagram, or click the next and previous arrows near the top right.

 

To leave the circle interaction and go to the next page or next topic, click the Next Page button located at the top right, or use the arrows on the player bar.

 

Use the volume icon located near the top right of the screen to adjust the volume. To change the screen view, click the view icon.
